This was excellent. I felt like I was a fly on the wall and if I WERE a fly, I wouldn't even want to be in the atmosphere set here. This had a feeling of "The Grudge", but this book should be made into a movie if it hasn't already been made into one...It would TRUMP The Grudge no matter how many talented actors and actresses you add to the movie. Period. I felt the terror, the horror, the trapped and closed off feeling...The element of being alone.

It's interesting how medicinal references were mentioned in this story. Did it somehow have a more negative effect on the mind of Leigh? Did her fear increase what happened? Why was one of her neighbors mentioned and then not brought back into the story? Why wasn't Leigh's dream mentioned before? There's some loose threads that I think the author meant to be loose to keep us guessing. You know how men say women are a "tease"? Well this short story is definitely a tease. Just like the force that fed off of fear in this book, it jumps through, grabs you by the mind and heart and pulls you ever so gently closer and closer and then lets you go to fall and hit the ground hard for it's own enjoyment. I truly enjoyed this short story. I actually downloaded the free Kindle app on my iPhone just to get this 99 cent short story because the plot of it enthralled me and I was curious.

The friendship of Leigh and Mary makes you think...the neighbors...the medicinal references...Leigh's failed relationship and how something that's devastating could somehow resurface as a bad evil SOMETHING that she developed herself being in a big house by herself with locks...I have a feeling something went on with Leigh that is unbeknownst to the reader perhaps because it's too horrifying to uncover about her. Why wasn't her family closer to her or mentioned before? I think there was something terrifying about Leigh that nobody wanted to admit or reveal to the reader as if we couldn't be let in on a secret. As if we're being told "Shhh...just shut up and don't say a word about whatever you know." I enjoyed this short story and I think more people should give it a chance.

And yes....I have read this in the dark once to make me feel even more into the book and I greatly enjoyed it. I used to be scared of clowns and Ursula from little mermaid and scared of needles. Now I donate blood whenever I can, I love horror movies that keep me guessing and the type that I can't predict. And this completely satisfied me.

Entropy edition by R Samms Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

With all due respect to the author, I think a more appropriate title for this short novel should be, "The Malevolent." Entropy represents a general state of decline, whereas malevolent has a will, purpose, or direction involved in the harmful event that occurs.

Entropy is a short, wonderful horror story about a 29 year old Russian literature professor, named Leigh Gallant, who moves into a house shortly after she dissolves her engagement to a cheating fiance. She wanted a fresh start, and felt living by herself gave her that opportunity. Unfortunately, this is a tragic mistake on her part, as the basement appears to be occupied by some form of malevolent force that slowly drives Leigh to insanity, or worse. . .

The author takes delight in taking the reader on this tortuous road to oblivion, with a specific focus on the unfortunate inhabitant's state of mind. The language and the scenery can be gruel some at times, and I would not allow a young person to read this novel.

Entropy is a perfect story for Halloween, or whenever you're in the mood to be scared out of your wits.
